Threat determines which enemy a mob chooses to attack. You gain threat by
dealing damage, healing allies engaged with that enemy, and using specific
abilities. Your followers' damage and healing also contribute to your threat.
The target with the highest threat is the primary target.

If your threat rises high enough, the enemy may switch to you mid-fight.
There is a cushion: you generally must exceed the current target's threat by
a margin before a switch happens, and that margin is larger for ranged and
casters than for melee.

Threat is manipulated by certain skills. Taunt and Goading Strike can force
an enemy to consider you the highest threat for a short time. Distract and
Fade can prevent switching temporarily.

To see your threat: add ~q to your prompt, use the group command, and check
recount after fights.
