Arcane Prodigy is the Magician capstone spell, available at level 20.
It replaces Deathstrike on the Magician spell list; Necromancers retain
Deathstrike.

   Arcane Prodigy requires an active Trance to cast and costs no mana. For
five combat rounds, the Magician's metamagic reserves are held at maximum
and every metamagic modification (Clarity, Held Spell, Expand, Quicken,
Ruinous) costs zero points. Only one metamagic modification may still be
applied per spell cast.

   When Arcane Prodigy ends, Trance collapses with it. This triggers
Trance's normal expiry effects: the Magician's spell points and movement
are both drained to zero. Arcane Prodigy then cannot be cast again for
twenty-four real minutes. Use it as a single decisive moment, not a
rotation tool.
